League of Women Voters sponsors Candidates Forum

AMARILLO -- Panhandle voters are getting the chance to hear the views opposing candidates in the November election tonight. 

The League of Women Voters is holding a Candidates Forum at the Amarillo Senior Citizens Centers Main Hall, 1220 S. Polk.

The public is invited to meet and greet the candidates starting at 6:30 p.m.  During the program, which begins at 7 p.m., opposed candidates will give opening statements of their qualifications and platform positions. After all have spoken, audience members may submit written, issue-only questions to the candidates. 

Opposed candidates planning to attend include Marty Rowley, Republican, and Steven D. Schafersman, Democrat, running for State Board of Education, District 15; Abel Bosquez, Democrat, and Four Price, Republican, Texas State Representative, District 87; Juan M. Gonzales, Republican, and Idella Thomas-Jackson, Democrat, Potter County Constable, Precinct 4; and Mac Thornberry, Republican, U.S. Representative, District 13.  Thornberrys opponents-John Deek, Libertarian, and Keith Houston, Green Party--are not able to attend.
