WMBD 31 is your Local Election Headquarters. As next month's election nears, we're finding out where local candidates stand on the issues. In the 16th district Congressional race Republican Adam Kinzinger is facing Democrat Wanda Rohl. We're asking candidates thoughts on President Obama's government mandated healthcare plan.

Adam Kinzinger:
" I like the idea of keeping kids on their parents' insurance until they're 26, but I like cross state competition for health insurance, allowing companies not to just compete in Illinois, but all across the country and against each other so we get better prices, so you don't see these outrageous bonuses going to CEOs because they have to keep their bottom line down. And we have to have real lawsuit reform in this country because doctors right now practice medicine defensively. They're always worried about being sued so they order all kinds of extra tests. Well if we can begin to just say that a doctor and a patient can practice medicine how ever they feel best, you're going to see the price and the cost of medicine really begin to come down. So we have to replace it with something that makes sense, but ya know, we need to repeal this law and I think the American people support that."

Wanda Rohl:
"The ACA, I see patients every day that utilize that. I have a 20 year old, who, I like the fact can stay on his dad's insurance until he can find out exactly what he is, what he wants to do for a career. And last Thursday, I went and had a baseline breast cancer screening and because I have private health insurance, I didn't have a co-pay, no out of pocket costs for me. So, we're moving towards preventative care and not just current care. So, as somebody who has worked in healthcare and has used our public and private health insurance, I can tell you that having access to healthcare increases our life expectancy and decreases the cost."
