WBRE/WYOU Announce Historic Partnership with Steamtown Marathon

WBRE is proud to announce an historic partnership with the Steamtown Marathon. The Steamtown Marathon Race committee has tapped WBRE to provide pre, live and post coverage of the Marathon this October for the 15th Annual run. Coverage will include taped segments of the starting and midway points, and live coverage of the final hour of the race on WBRE and sister station WYOU. It will also be streamed LIVE on pahomepage.com.

This is the first year that the race will be covered live by any local affiliate.

"At WBRE, we are constantly striving to be more involved, and more supportive of our community," said Lou Abitabilo, Vice-President and General Manager of WBRE. "and we are thrilled to be able to be a part of such an important event in Northeastern Pennsylvania." The Steamtown Marathon is a USATF-certified event and is an official Boston Marathon qualifier. The course features a full net elevation drop of 955'. The race starts October 10, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. at the Forest City High School and finishes at Courthouse Square in Downtown Scranton.

“Having first-ever live coverage from the finish line by WBRE and WYOU is a great way to celebrate the marathon’s 15th anniversary,” said Marathon Race Director Bill King. "We expect 2,500 runners from more than 40 states and close to 10 countries. Having live streaming at pahomepage.com will allow friends and family of these runners from all over the world to watch the marathon as it happens. That will separate us from most marathons of our size.”

Entrant numbers for this year's run already exceed 1,500, which leaves less than 1,000 spaces. Race officials believe the event will sell out in mid August and strongly encourage runners to register for the marathon as soon as possible at www.steamtownmarathon.com.
