State College, CENTRE COUNTY - All eyes are under center as the Nittany Lions start spring practice. They want to see who takes the lead in the race to become the next Penn State starting quarterback.

Head coach Bill O'Brien says he's excited for the competition to play out.

"It's fun when you're working with the type of guys that you're working with right now," O'Brein says. "We have a very smart room, a hungry room. They're young, they listen, they ask great questions. They really want to be coached. So it's really going to be fun to get out on the field and watch these guys practice."

Sophomore Steven Bench and junior college transfer Tyler Ferguson will split the starter's snaps throughout spring practice.

But O'Brien says no decision will be made by the end of the spring and that true freshman Christian Hackenberg will be in the mix to start when he arrives this summer.

Overall, the Nittany Lions are a healthy bunch this spring, just one player, linebacker Ben Kline, will sit out the practices because of injury. Two others, tight end Kyle Carter and safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong will practice but not receive any contact.
