Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County - Grocery stores across the country are flooded with football fans this weekend as people prepare for their super bowl parties.  Buying all those finger foods and fan favorites can make your cost at checkout add up quickly.  Eyewitness News Reporter Shannon Murphy has some advice on how to stay on budget for the big game.

Dolores Dereshkevich is getting ready for her super bowl party, "We're making it easy. Everything is going to be take-out. We're getting hoagies, we're getting pizza, we're getting wings and just a few things that we have to pick up today."

Dolores says she's hosted a super bowl party at her house every year for the last 20 years and the cost really adds up.  If you want to save money on Super Bowl Sunday, the first rule of thumb is to make food at home.

Bargain Mom, Jenna Urban says one way you can save money on Super Bowl Sunday is to skip the platters at your local grocery store and buy the ingredients and make them yourself.  "To buy party platters that the store puts together you can actually put those same party platters cheese or cold cuts for half the price," explains Urban.

More super saving advice; don't wait until the last minute. Plan everything in advance and go to the store with a list.  Check your grocery store's circular for special deals and make sure you cut coupons.  Urban says too many people overspend on paper products and there's an easy solution for that, "For a big Super Bowl party, rather than getting everything football you can mix and match the colors to go along with the same theme.  You're actually going to save 50 percent on paper products by buying a solid color."

No matter who you are rooting for, if you follow this advice, you'll score a touchdown in savings.
