Brandon DeFazio potted two goals and Scott Munroe made 34 saves as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins won their fourth straight contest with a 3-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch on Friday at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton held a 2-0 cushion going into the third period, but Syracuse would get on the board at 5:37 when Kyle Cumiskey spun a pass to the left circle that Patrick Maroon wristed over the glove of Munroe.
That score would hold up until the 18:14 mark of the same period with DeFazio skating down the right wing and bulleting a shot to the back of the net for his fifth of the year.
Staking with the extra attacker and down 3-1, J-F Jacques pulled Syracuse within one with 30 seconds remaining in regulation, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would hold for the win.
Munroe stopped 34 of 36 shots for his third win in a row. The Penguins' penalty kill went unblemished on six opportunities against.
The Crunch controlled play for much of the first period, but it was the Penguins hopping out to the 1-0 lead after Brandon DeFazio backhanded a rebound past Tarkki with 3:39 until the intermission.
With just 38.9 seconds left in the period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went up by two on Ryan Craig's third goal of the year. Philip Samuelsson pushed a Syracuse clearing attempt into the near corner where Colin McDonald threw a pass to the crease that Craig knocked inside the right post.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins return home on Saturday, December 17 to battle the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05 PM.
