WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins were on the wrong side of a 5-1 score in a penalty-filled affair against the Binghamton Senators at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

In an eventful first twenty minutes of hockey, Binghamton rushed out to a 2-0 lead while also enduring a goaltender change. The Senators capitalized on a Penguins turnover in front of the net at 5:29 as Pat Cannonne threw a no-look pass that Shane Prince sent past blocker of Jeff Zatkoff.

Seconds later, a loose puck in high slot of the Binghamton zone led a collision between goalie Nathan Lawson and Penguins forward Adam Payerl. The result was a five-minute power play for the Senators and Robin Lehner entering the game for the injured Lawson.

Though Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would kill off the man-advantage, Derek Grant put the Senators up by two at 10:49 when his shot from the near sidewall found the top of the net.

The Penguins also switched up netminders as Brad Thiessen came into the game to start the second, but Binghamton was able to pad its goal total with three goals in the period.

Working on the man-advantage midway through the second and looking to shrink the Senators lead; Wilkes-Barre/Scranton instead was down, 3-0, after David Dziurzynski completed a shorthanded rush with a wrist shot from the far circle that whizzed inside the left post.

Cannone notched an even-strength goal with 3:51 remaining until the intermission and Jack Downing picked up a power play goal 55 seconds later to make the score, 5-0 for Binghamton.

Dominik Uher got the Penguins on the board at 3:35 of the third with his first pro goal, a 5-on-4 marker at 3:35 of the third.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton went 8-for-9 on the penalty kill, totaling 98 minutes of penalties. Zatkoff took the loss nine saves on 11 shots in the first period. Thiessen stopped 18-of-21 in relief.
