State College Borough Hires New Police Officers

The Borough of State College Police Department would like to welcome three new police officers to the force.  Mayor Elizabeth Goreham recenlty swore in the officers.


 

Matthew J. Kisenwether, age 24 was born and raised in State College and graduated from the State College Area High School in 2007 and from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Crime, Law, and Justice in 2010. While attending Penn State, Matt worked as Penn State Police Student Auxiliary officer. After being hired by the Borough of State College as a police officer, Matt began the Pennsylvania State Police Basic Police Academy in August 2012. On December 21, 2012, Officer Kisenwether successfully completed his basic training. He now begins the Field Training Officer phase of training assigned with State College Police training officers. Matt resides in State College.


Akinyokunbo O. Obiri, age 30, was born in Illinois and spent most of his childhood in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In 2011 Akin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Studies from the University of Maryland University College in Adelphi, Maryland. In 2011 he enlisted with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard where he continues to serve on a part-time basis. Prior to being hired by the Borough of State College as a police officer, Akin was employed by The Pennsylvania State University as a Military Admissions Counselor. Akin began the Pennsylvania State Police Basic Police Academy in August 2012. On December 21, 2012, Officer Obiri successfully completed his basic training. He now begins the Field Training Officer phase of training assigned with State College Police training officers. Akin and his wife Cheri reside in Centre Hall.

Larry C. Crawford, Jr., age 36, was born and grew up in Mifflin County, PA. Prior to being hired by the Borough of State College, Larry was employed as a police officer for the Fairfax County, Virginia Police Department for six (6) years. Officer Crawford was hired as a State College Police Officer in August 2012 and on December 21, 2012 successfully completed that police department's Field Training Officer phase of training and has been assigned solo patrol duties. Larry resides in Lewistown.
