Make Your Own Moulding

Tools and supplies needed:
- hammer
- back saw
- nail set
- flat bar
- hand saw miter box
- 2-inch finishing nails
- 1-1/2-inch finishing nails
- 1”x4” mdf flat board (multi-density fiber board)
- Standard chair rail
- ¾-inch quarter round
- caulk
- latex semi-gloss enamel paint
Three-step molding
A fancy base board molding that’s made of multi-density fiber board or “mdf” that will give a decorative look to a room
The first step is to cut and put an mdf flat board on the walls… this will be nailed into the studs through the sheetrock using 2-inch finishing nails.
The next step is to apply the cap molding on top of the mdf flat board. The cap molding should be applied with 1-1/2 inch finishing nails. A nail set should be used to keep from damaging the molding with the hammer and to sink the nail head into the molding.
The next step is the shoe molding that goes to the bottom of the mdf… this will give it an extra splash of panache. This is applied with the same size 1-inch nails that were used on the cap mold.
A little touch up paint and voila there it is… pretty as a picture. And it only cost about 100-dollars to cover a 12-by-12 room. You can buy all this stuff at a home center.
