Wyoming, Luzerne County - Much of our area was dealing with high water one year ago.   So many families and businesses managed to; somehow, bounce back from the historic Flood of 2011.  One local man captured, in pictures, one community's road to recovery.

If a picture can say a thousand words, Jamie Smith's art gallery writes a novel.  Smith opened T.W. Showmaker Art in the old Snyder's Hardware building in Wyoming.  For the next month and a half he will feature photographs he took in West Pittston during and after the Flood of 2011.

"I was born in 76 and so I would always hear about the Agnes flood and how big that was, so to actually see something beyond that was a once in a lifetime thing," explains Smith.

Sharon Griffin came by Saturday to check out the pictures.  She lived through the flood and owns a home in West Pittston.  She says looking at the photos brings back so many emotions, "This is a way to respect what had happened last year and hopefully we don't have this kind of natural disaster anytime soon because people are still cleaning up."

The 25 pictures that grace the new galleries walls show the power water has to tear homes apart, but they are also a first hand look at how it can bring a community back together.

"You know what I see when I look at these pictures?  I see people with a lot of hope," says Griffin.

Smith adds, "Obviously there was a lot of devastation but I think the spirit of the people in West Pittston to come back.  There were a lot of grandchildren and younger people helping to clean up so that's what impressed me the most."

Smith also held a sidewalk sale Saturday.  Proceeds from the sale as well as any prints that are ordered will be donated to the West Pittston Library which is featured in several photographs.  The gallery will be on display until October 27th.
