Jobs Available For Unemployed to Help Clean-up Flood Mess
Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County--- A new program is underway in Luzerne and Schuylkill Countes to help people who lost their jobs because of September's flooding. The people hired by the program will be sent to communities that need help cleaning-up after those floods.
LucyAnn Vierling the Executive Director of the Luzerne/Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board, told Eyewitness News, "We received a federal grant to hire as many as 100 people who were dispalced by the floods. They will get training and certifications to do certain work in the flood ravaged communities. We also sent letters to each community detailing what they have to do to get these workers, and the requirements that must be met. These workers can only work on public projects, not private projects. The respective county engineers will determine what projects are eligible and get back to us. The long term unemployed are also eligible for these jobs."
