Hazleton-Shickshinny Connection is Made in Flood Aftermath
Shickshinny, Luzerne County -- It was a strange sight to see as Hazleton Mayor Joe Yannuzzi stood outside the Shickshinny Borough garage with Shickshinny Mayor Beverly Moore.
The two have become friends thanks to the devastating flood of September. Hazleton residents have donated truckloads of supplies to flood victims in Shickshinny.
The fire department and Hazleton Area School District have collected things like clothes, food and cleaning supplies for Shickshinny.
Mayor Yannuzzi said, "Hazleton feels like the forgotten city in Luzerne County and it seemed like Shickshinny is the forgotten borough. We heard all the flood talk about West Pittston, Plains and Wilkes-Barre and we thought what about Shickshinny? So we thought let's help them out."
Mayor Moore said, "We are so grateful. We want to thank the people of Hazleton for their generosity. This friendship will last forever. We have nothing left as a town, but knowing people care gives us a big boost."
