Manpower Will Soon Help Flooded Communities
Shickshinny, Luzerne County -- Communities hard hit by flooding may soon be able to take advantage of a program that would hire unemployed workers to help clean-up those communities.
Luzerne County Commissioner Maryanne Petrilla told Eyewitness News, "The county just received word that the Workforce Development Agency in Luzerne and Schuylkill Counties received a 3 million dollar grant that can be used to hire people who are not working now to help in flood recovery. They would be trained and will use equipment we already have from the flooding in 2006 to help communities today."
LucyAn Vairing, from the Workforce Development Agency said, "The program is just being put together but we may be ale to get it up and running soon. We were told there is about 10 million dollars coming to 10 counties in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania."
Melissa Weber who is Shichshinny's Secretary said, "We need help we just don't have the resources to handle this. It is really a tragedy."
