Flood Victims Feel Victimized Twice--by Flood and Politicians
West Pittston, Luzerne County-- Dorothy Lagrue, 74, of West Pittston is downright angry after learning that federal aid to flood victims is in jeopardy because of a political showdown in Washington. She told Eyewitness News, "Why is it that when other countries have disasters we go running to help them with billions of dollars? But when we as Americans hacve disasters we ave to beheld hostage by the politicians? They should grow-up and gives their citizens the help they deserve."
Lagrue has lived in her Victoria-era home on Montgomery Avenue since 1966 and now has to deal with a massive clean-up. Her son-in-law, Mark Winesock echoed her comments. Winesock said, "I am a taxpaying citizen and do the right thing, why can't lawmakers just do the right thing?"
The Senate is supposed to vote on a bill that would keep the government running and fund F.E.M.A. The measure passed the Republican controlled House last week.
