West Scranton, Lackawanna County- Most teens today do have a cell phone, and they're not just using it to check in with mom and dad. In West Scranton, several students were even using their cell phones while walking to school. Smart phone applications like Facebook and Twitter are extremely popular, but they can also be dangerous. We asked students what their peers are posting online. "Very detailed. It's just very inappropriate things you see on there all the time." says, Leroy Carter. "They say like bad stuff and bad words and all that. They put up pictures and start saying bad stuff about people. Like they're ugly and stuff." says, Alexandra Oter. For those reasons, Alexandra's mom took control of the situation. "She blocked it because she didn't want to start problems, so she blocked my Facebook." adds, Alexandra. It takes seconds to update your Facebook status or tweet out a message. Parents we talked to are worried about what there children are making viral. Tonia McDowell has a daughter. She says, "They're trouble. Nine times out of ten they're mostly negative. I always tell my daughter and my nieces, if you're going to be on there be positive." Tonia says, when social media is used wrong, terrible consequences can follow. "It can lead up to someone loosing their live. The way these kids are today. These guns. You don't know. " says, Tonia.
