West Hazleton, Luzerne County---   West Hazleton and Hazleton Fire Departments have always backed each other up in major fires and emergency calls but there was never any formal agreement. The two communities are set to make history and ink a deal that will involve emergency calls. West Hazleton Fire Chief Dennis Ganc said, "This will allow both of our departments to take advantage of financial benfits as wel as manpower resources. The deal will not cost taxpayers a penny but will enable both departments to apply for grants at the Federal and State levels." Hazleton Fire Chief Don Leshko echoed Ganc's comments and was looking forward to future agreements that would benefit the communities and their taxpayers. Robert Generose from Hazleton was glad to hear about the deal. He said, "In the past Hazleton was always distant -- this will allow the city to reach out to other nearby communities and help make the entire area a safer place."  Hazleton Council approved the agreement last month and West Hazleton Council is expected to follow suit next week.
