HERSHEY, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory over the Hershey Bears at the 2013 Capital BlueCross AHL Outdoor Classic as Paul Thompson's netted the game-winner at 1:19 of the extra session.
A scoreless tie would remain until 4:20 was left on the clock in the second period. Jon DiSalvatore forced a puck deep into the Penguins zone, where Jeff Taffe hit Tomas Kundratek in the high slot for a one-timer past Jeff Zatkoff.
Riley Holzapfel knotted the contest up at one in the third with 12:13 remaining. Thompson flipped the puck from near boards to an open area and Holzapfel caught up to it before unleashing a slapshot from the left circle that beat Dany Sabourin to the short side.
In the overtime period, Jayson Megna sprung Thompson for a breakaway and fired the puck off of the glove of Sabourin and into the net for his team-leading 13th goal of the season and the Penguins' win.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Zatkoff stopped 24 of 25 shots for his 12th win of the year. Sabourin made 18 stops for the Bears.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins return home on Wednesday, January 23 to face the St. John's IceCaps at 7:05PM.
