WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins had their three-game winning streak come to a halt as they were defeated by the Hershey Bears, 3-1, at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

After the first period failed to generate a goal for either side, the Bears broke through twice in the second with the help of their power play units.

Boyd Kane was left alone on the doorstep and redirected Tomas Kundratek's wrist shot under the pads of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goalie Jeff Zatkoff to make it 1-0 for Hershey at 1:17 of the frame. The power play goal ended a string of 37 straight successful penalty kills for the Penguins.

The Bears would strike again with 3:09 left until the second intermission during a 5-on-3 advantage. Jeff Taffe floated a pass across the Penguins crease to the left post where Zach Hamill tapped in the puck to put Hershey up by two.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton found the back of the net against Bears netminder Braden Holtby midway through third to cut Hershey's lead in half. Bobby Farnham accepted a pass from Phil Dupuis and unleashed a snapshot from the left hashmarks. The puck was knocked down in front, but Riley Holzapfel swept in to backhand in his third goal of the season.

With the Penguins on the penalty kill and skating with an extra attacker late in the contest, Hershey's Jeff Taffe deposited an empty-net goal with 1.1 seconds left to complete the scoring.

Zatkoff saw his personal three-game win streak come to end, stopping 18-of-20 shots. Holtby finished with 38 saves for the Bears.
