Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11
Middleport Fire Company is collecting items for the Hurricane Sandy Victim. This drive will run until November 19th. The Fire Company is set at the St. Clair Walmart this weekend November 9, 10 and 11 from 8 AM - 8 PM each day.
The group is also collecting at the fire house. Anything you can do to help us get the word out would be greatly appreciated People who want to donate and can't make it to Walmart can call the station or send monetary donations to PO Box 219 Middleport Pa 17953.

Operation: Touch of Home will be collecting and packaging essential item's for our Troops and The American Red Cross.
The collection point is Kinsley's Shop-Rite, Brodheadsville.
Saturday November 10th we will be collecting for our local American Red Cross's disaster fund which has been depleted due to the devastation caused by hurricane Sandy. All collections on Saturday will be given to the American Red Cross.
Sunday November 11th we will be collecting for our Troops serving on foreign soil in harm's way.

Disaster Relief Drive This Weekend for Jersey Shore Victims of Sandy
Warm clothing, blankets and food are urgently needed on the New Jersey shore, and area residents can this weekend help get urgently needed aid to victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Thousands of coastal area residents remain in dire need of warm clothing, blankets and food. Many of these people lost virtually everything in Hurricane Sandy's wake. Donations will be driven to Seaside Heights, New Jersey on Monday, by Luzerne County Atty. Susan Sernak Martinelli and family.
Attorney Sernak, originally from the Jersey shore area, is coordinating the relief drive, with the assistance of area businesses.
Anyone willing to help this weekend can drop off donattions any of four locations:
Stephanie;s Greens 'N Things, 6 N. Broad St, West Hazleton (by Pantry Quik) (9am - 5pm);
Sernak Farms, RD1 Quakake Rd., Weatherly (8am - 5pm) - Bring items to donations table at Roadside Farm Market stand;
Martinelli residence, 39 Woodmere Drive, Drums (call ahead, 788-1865); or
Safari Plaza Citgo, 547 North Hunter Hwy (Rt. 309), Drums, just north of the intersection of Routes 309 and I-80.
A partial list of Hurricane Sandy victim needs includes:
canned goods, can openers, non-perishable food (cereal, crackers, pretzels, etc.), cleaning supplies, hygiene items and toiletries including feminine hygiene items, diapers, wipes, coats, sweat shirts, socks, boots, clothes in good condition, blankets, towels, sheets, flashlights and batteries, paper products, car seats, gift cards for shelters to purchase needed items.
Attorney Martinelli is bearing the expense of transportation in its entirety.

Susquehanna Community School District and it's teachers invite you to the 2nd Annual Holiday Dinner at the Susquehanna Community Elementary Cafeteria on Saturday, November 10th.
Dinner will be served from 1 to 4pm by the friendly faculty and there is no cost!
The West Side Career and Technology Center SkillsUSA student organization will be holding a Holiday Craft Fair at the school to raise funds for community service projects and to assist students in local, state, and national competitions.

On Nov. 10, 2012 the Fraternal Order of Eagles is having it's annual fail craft fair from 10 am - PM all the money will go a Christmas party for foster kids in the area. There will be various crafts, holiday idem's and various idem's for sale. For more information you can call the club at 961-5495.

Monroe County Veterans Day Parade The parade steps off at 1:00 Saturday. It starts at Stroudsburg High School and marches through Stroudsburg to Danbury Park in East Stroudsburg.At 2:30 there will be a veteran's day ceremony and picnic at the park.
The Carbon County Veterans Day Parade and Veterans Memorial Dedication will be held November 11, 2012 in Palmerton
The dedication will be at 12:00 noon and the parade will start at 2 PM. Grand marshals will be from each of the veteran's organizations in the county.

On Sunday, November 11th at 2 P.M. there will be a dedication at Taylor Memorial Cemetery. Through their senior project at Riverside High School, David Torrisi and Johnny Segilia have created a memorial garden to the unknown buried there

"Miracle on the Hudson" US Airways Flight 1549 survivor Fred Berretta will share his life-changing story when he serves as the principal speaker at JMJ Catholic Radio 750 AM's inaugural fall banquet on Sunday, Nov. 11.
The event will begin with Mass at 4 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 28 Memorial St., Exeter, followed by the banquet at 5 p.m. in the parish center located adjacent to the church.
Principal guest speaker Fred Berretta, one of the survivors of the ill-fated US Airways Flight 1549, which had to make an emergency landing in the Hudson River shortly after departure from New York's La Guardia Airport on Jan. 15, 2009, will recount the harrowing experience and how it became a life-changing event.

Mark Your Calendar
On Monday, November 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., in the Fireplace Lounge, Nazareth Hall, The Office of Military and Veteran Services at Marywood University will host a Veteran's Day Roll Call, honoring the service members who have fallen during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn. This event is free and open to the public.
A list of 6600 names of fallen men and women service members will be read aloud throughout the day and the university will participate in a nationwide "moment of silence" at 2 p.m
The Wilkes-Barre City Health Departmentflu clinic will be held on Thursday, November 15, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m at the Kirby Health Center, 71 North Franklin Street.

On Saturday, November 17, 2012, the City of Wilkes-Barre will kick-off the holiday season with a day full of events in downtown Wilkes-Barre, concluding with the arrival of Santa during the annual Christmas Parade and the lighting of theChristmas tree on Public Square.
The Bucknell University Concert Chorale will present its annual fall concert Sunday, Nov. 18, at 2:30 p.m. in the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, is conducted by William Payn, professor of music at Bucknell, with David Cover as accompanist.
"Celebrations" includes a selection of works in honor of life and good health, commitment, human discovery and fulfillment, the Nativity and American tradition.
Bucknell University's Department of Art and Art History will host an Open House at the university's Art Barn on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Open House will feature student work in painting, photography, graphic design, sculpture, printmaking and art history.
Attendees also may participate in hands-on art activities including plaster cast-making of guests' hands, printmaking activities, a photo booth and a collaborative painting.

Young Pennsylvania students are invited to learn about aviation and express their creativity through the PennDOT Bureau of Aviation's annual art contest.
This year's contest theme, "50 Years of American Space Flight," encourages students to learn more about aviation, from airplane development to flights into space. Entries will be judged in two divisions: first through third grades, and fourth and fifth grades. Entries must be postmarked by Nov. 29.
Artwork should be submitted on 8.5-by-11-inch or 9-by-12-inch paper, unframed, unmatted and unlaminated. All work must be done by hand (there is an exception for children with physical challenges).
Permitted formats are: acrylic, oil paint, felt-tip pens, indelible ink, soft ballpoint pens, watercolor or crayons. Formats that are not permitted include: non-permanent media such as pencil or charcoal, computer-generated artwork and collage work using photocopies.
The back of each submission should include the student's name, teacher's name, grade level, county and school address and phone number. Entries will not be returned. Winners' schools will be notified by telephone.
