Overfield Township, Wyoming County-- We're learning more about a Wyoming County man killed during an altercation with police.

It happened Wednesday afternoon near Lake Winola.

42-year-old Brian Williams was killed in that altercation with police after he refused to answer a warrant for a doctor-ordered mental health evaluation.

According to sources close to the investigation, the warrant was issued because it was believed Williams posed a danger to himself or those around him.

Williams was first Tasered, then eventually shot by police at his home along Route 307 in Overfield Township.

Williams, who was a long-time volunteer firefighter with the Lake Winola Hose Company, was pronounced dead a short time later by the Wyoming County coroner.

People we spoke with couldn't believe how the events unfolded.

Ryan Terbush, of Tunkhannock, said, "I grew up down the road. My buddy's house is right down the road. I spend a lot of time in Lake Winola. It's a small community. Nothing like this has ever happened here before, you know?"

An autopsy on Brian Williams' body is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Local police departments involved with the case referred all questions to the Wyoming County district attorney's office.

In a press release-- the D.A. noted the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation, and he will offer no further comment until that investigation is completed.

We'll stick with this story and bring you the latest details as soon as they become available.
