Updated: October 13, 2012

An exhibit on the Holocaust featuring photographs taken by the first companies of American troops to enter the camps is now on display at the East Stroudsburg High School Library. The exhibit also features posters that depict the rise of Hitlers "Final Solution," and war-era memorabilia from the American home front.  The exhibit will be on display through October 17, 2012.

The exhibit leads visitors through a timeline of the Holocaust from the rise of the Nazi Party, to the adoption of Germany's Nuremberg Laws that restricted the civil rights of German Jews, to the liberation of concentration camps in 1945.  Many of the materials are provided courtesy by Sherri Sparks from the Jewish Community Center in Allentown and a private collection of MaryLou Lordi.

"We encourage all students, teachers and parents to visit the library and see this moving reminder of one of the darkest chapters in modern history," said Marylou Lordi, the exhibit's organizer.  "The Holocaust exhibit is the latest in our library presentations designed to expose our community to the arts, sciences and history with museum-quality work."

In addition to posters and memorabilia, the exhibit contains a collection of the photographs of the the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp taken by Donald Burdick,  16th Field Artillery Observation Battalion.  He currently resides in Forks Township, Easton, PA.  Several of his original photographs were distributed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  Also, the exhibit displays poetry and reproduction of artwork created by children of the  Theresienstandt concentration camp.
