Freeland, Luzerne County-These are images that play out all across Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania nearly everyday--...Children having a fun at the YMCA..but the Freeland  "Y' ..is much more than a building where people can play basketball or work out..
It is a community gathering place since 1930.
Pam Nowak brings her three young children here..she came here as a kid..

"It would be totally detrimental if this wouldn't go through this keep kids out of trouble there's really not much to do for kids there anymore" said Nowak.

Jeanelle Vanblargen is new to the Freeland area...
She learned quickly what this place means to the community..

"It helps my children meet alot of kids through basketball dance and preschools.. they know when they come here they will see kids from the area." said Vanblargen.

The building on Front Street has already undergone major repairs..
Joe Flanagan is Executive Director and says this fundraiser effort could help make sure the freeland ymca is here for future generations--

"It's a generational thing the town really built here..other people still here grew up here really is community center in Freeland." said Flanagan.

Freeland does not have any other center for activity... The YMCA It serves more than 1,000 people.
That's one third of the population of the borough..

"We're the only place in town two and a half blocks away from school we also serve as school's emergency shelter not only recreation activity but also safety end of town." said Joe Flanagan.
