The 17th Congressional District is also a newly redrawn district. It now covers Schuylkill County.. and parts of Carbon, Monroe, Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Northampton Counties.

Laurie Monteforte talked with Matt Cartwright live during Eyewitness News at 11. He told us his priorities will include keeping defense jobs in our region.

"I think it is an absolutely vital part of being the congressman for this new district to stand up for the 5,800 people and families who are employed at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. I intend to have Tobyhanna at the top of every white board in my legislative office in Washington DC because that is the biggest federal appropriation in this district," he said.
