Looking for something fun and interesting to do this weekend ?
Here are a few suggestions.  Plus a few upcoming events in the days ahead.
 
 Saturday,   October 13 and Sunday, October 14

   Riverfest in Berwick!  The entertainment includes square dancing, a pie eating contest, a lumberjack contest and the battle of the bands on sunday.
Eyewitness news' Kyla Campbell is a judge for the band competition.
Riverfest takes place at Test Track Riverfront Park in Berwick.

A Fall Community Carnival is going on this weekend (October 13 and 14) at the Laurel Mall in Hazleton. A number of non-profit groups will be participating. There will be arts and crafts, homemade foods and bake goods. You are invited to come out and support the local groups involved. On Sunday, October 14 there will be a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m.

The Dog-A-Thon is underway at the Steamtown Mall in Scranton on Saturday, October 13. The event benefits the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter. There will be a raffle, presentation by the Welcome Waggers Dog Therapy Group, and more. The dog events will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Stop by and say hi and help our furry friends.

Out of the Darkness Walk for suicide awareness & prevention will take place Saturday (October13)  morning on the Linden Street side of Courthouse Square in Scranton. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the event will begin at 9 a.m.!

A number of area musicians will perform in a concert beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Grace Episcopal Church, 827 Church Street.
Proceeds from the event will help cover costs of replacement of backstage curtains and other refurbishments to the stage of the Grace Church Parish House, which is heavily used by the community.
Performers will include members of the Honesdale High School Chorus under the direction of Martha Curtis; a group from Canaan Christian Academy under the direction of Betsy Black; the Honesdale Barbershop Quartet under the leadership of Dan Biondo; Baritone Kenneth Platt accompanied by the Rev. Edward K. Erb, and more.

Chalk it up to one fun day! The third annual chalk fest is today (October 13) at the Riverfront Commons in Wilkes-barre. The Fun begins at 11 a.m. and continues through 3 p.m. In addition to chalk drawings and competitions there will be plenty of fun and entertainment for the entire family!

The Fight for Air Walk takes place on Saturday, October 13 at Nay Aug Park, in Scranton, PA. Hosted by The American Lung Association in Pennsylvania, the 5K walk begins at 10 a.m. with registration starting at 9 a.m. The walk will bring together families and friends from all over the Scranton and central Pennsylvania area to walk for a common cause.   Andy Mehalshick will be there- join him for the walk.

A benefit pasta dinner for Drew Yurkanin , organized by caring family and friends, Saturday, October 13th from 1 to 6 at the Dickson City Civic Center on Albert St, and they are asking for your help!! The 19 year old has Stage 5 (end stage) Chronic Kidney Disease. He will be on dialysis in the near future and has contacted a kidney transplant facility and has started the process for a possible kidney transplant. As many know Drew is a college student and has been active in his church and helping out at a local rescue mission. He is the drummer for the Christian band "Choose this Day".

Sphinx Virtuosi, an ensemble of recent Conservatory graduates, will perform Saturday, Oct. 13, at 8 pm. at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University. There will be a pre-performance talk at 7:15 p.m. in the Weis Center Lobby. The event is sponsored in part by Sam and Nancy Craig.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $16 for seniors 62 and over, and $10 for children 18 and under and are available at www.bucknell.edu or by calling the box office at 570-577-1000.
The next event in the Weis Center's series is the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain on Oct. 18 at 7:30 pm. The performance will have an audience participation component, so ukulele players are encouraged to download the music and chords for the song at http://www.bucknell.edu

The Watsontown area CROP Hunger Walk to be held on October 14, 2012, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Watsontown Elementary School. Walkers will have a choice to walk 2 or 5 miles.
Organized locally, the Watsontown Area CROP Hunger Walk has set a goal of 60 Walkers and hopes to raise $2,000.00 to help stop hunger and poverty here in our community and around the world, through self-help initiatives
