February 2nd
Grover, his bride Sweet Arrow Sue and all his friends at the Sweet Arrow Lake County Park Clubhouse on Clubhouse Road, Pine Grove for the Annual Groundhog Day Celebration at the lake and be part of the fun! After the prediction at 9:00 am, members of Pine Grove Grundsau Lodge # 5 will entertain you with Pa Dutch stories and songs. Enjoy music by the Groundhog Band, "Groundhog" Auction, and watch a Pa Dutch video presentation. The festivities are free and open to the public. Rain, snow, or shine. Sweet Arrow Lake County Park Clubhouse is located two miles east of Pine Grove off Rt. 443.
Their Motto is "It is Never to Chilly for Chilli" On February. 2, 2013 The Fraternal order of Eagles #314 Scranton is inviting everyone to its 5th annual Chili Fest. The event is a benefit of Stacy Smith who is batting cancer. Tickets are only $8.00 and it is all you can eat. The fun starts at 2pm and goes until 7pm. There will be music, fun, prizes, and more!
Saturday, February 2nd- An Indoor Yard Sale from 8 AM to noon at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Elysburg. Lots of great, gently used items plus homemade soups and baked goods. All proceeds benefit the church's Relay for Life team. |
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will be hosting their 2nd Annual Thanks 4 Fighting Awareness Game to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) on Saturday, February 2nd at 7:05 p.m. Fans who purchase a ticket to their game against the Adirondack Phantoms will also receive a Penguins hat and a food voucher for a hot dog, soda, and potato chips
The Heart of Lewisburg Ice Festival Continues today in Lewisburg. Please note: The Polar Bear Plunge has been cancelled due to unsafe river conditions. Other Saturday events are still on for children and adults are still being held in downtown Lewisburg all day long. Plus, Campus Theatre is presenting a free screening of "Ground Hog Day" on Ground Hog Day, Saturday, February 2 at 4 p.m.
The
Harveys Lake Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Jasleen Glover will take place at
noon Saturday at Pole 89, 928 Lakeside Drive. Donation is $20 per person.
Check-in is at 11:15 a.m. Park in the yacht club lot across the street. Jasleen is a two year old who is battling
leukemia. Money raised from this event
will help with her medical expenses

Transfiguration of Our Lord Church's Myasopusna festival will held at the church's banquet hall, in Nanticoke on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from noon to 4 pm.
The Myasopusna (Meatfare) festival is the parish's annual pre-lenten celebration, preceding the Lenten Great Fast. Dinner (a platter of kobasi, roast pork, varenyky, borscht, blackbread and butter, and a homemade dessert) will be served from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. A variety of Ukrainian crafts, will be available for sale or by raffle. Live entertainment will include the Holy Year Choir, Kazka Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, and the Saint Mary's Ukrainian Dancers. Penn State Hazleton THON will host a Coach bag bingo fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Dr. Thomas M. Caccese Gymnasium in the physical education building. More than twenty different Coach bags, wallets, wristlets and purses will be given away as prizes during the event. Cost for the event is $25.

Ohhh, La La-Jacqueline Hyde, an award winning international burlesque and cabaret entertainer is bringing Pennsylvania a love-centric burlesque extravaganza called Valentease . On Wednesday, February 6, the Marywood University "Autism Speaks U" club will host a women's and men's basketball night to benefit autism awareness. The women's game begins at 6 p.m., and the men's game begins at 8 p.m. Admission: Adults $5, Seniors and Students $2; for those with a Marywood ID, admission is free.
The Blood is the Life: Vampires in Art & Nature, a multidisciplinary exploration of vampires in our world, both in fact and in fiction now at the Everhart Museum in Scranton. The Blood is the Life examines the art of blood and the vampire in literature, film, and contemporary art.

League's presentation of The Addams Family, the Everhart Museum presents Gothic Weekend, a Valentine's Day weekend of all-inclusive
gothic-themed events in conjunction with the Museum's new exhibit The Blood is the Life: Vampires in Art &

The Susquehanna River Arts group will have a show at Artspace Gallery in Bloomsburg through Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. Regular gallery hours: Thurs., Fri., and Sat.: noon until 8 pm; Sun.: noon until 5 pm. The Susquehanna River Arts group is made up of artists living in Columbia and Montour Counties; several different media will be represented: fiber, clay, painting, photography, mixed media wall pieces and sculptures, drawing and printing.

High Point Baptist Church, located at 1919 Mountain Road in Larksville, will be holding a Free Clothing Giveaway, on Saturday, February 16, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church. Local consignment shops as well as church members donate the clothing twice each year to be redistributed within our community. Clothing for infants, children and some adults will be made available. Neighborhood Centers 13th Annual Mardi Gras will serve as the
kick off for its 90th Year Anniversary Celebration. Presented by Mt.
Airy Casino & Resort, Mardi Gras will take place on Saturday,
February 9, 2013 at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel from 6 p.m. to 10
p.m. It will feature live music by Doug Smith's Dixieland All-Stars, dinner
with a New Orleans flair and much more. Tickets are $70.00 per person and all

Chicken & Waffle dinner served family style on February 16, at the Muncy Area Fire Company in Clarkstown. They will be serving from 4:30 p.m. till 7:00p.m. Cost $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children
A Household Auction will be held Sunday March 3rd beginning at 1pm at The South Creek Lions Club on Route 14 in Gillett. All proceeds will benefit the Lions Club. Anyone wishing to donate good clean household items for the auction may drop them off at the Club February 25th-March1st between 3 and 6pm. Refreshments will be available. Auctioneer Randy Jeliff is donating his services for this benefit. A Chicken Bar B Q is also scheduled to coincide with this event.
A Baked Haddock fish dinner sponsored by Saints Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olyphant will be held on March 22 from 5 to 7 pm. Tickets are $12 . Call 489-4348 for tickets by March 18.
What better way to start the new year than by giving back to the community. In conjunction with The Salvation Army (Monroe County), Frailey Insurance and Financial Services are collecting socks for the homeless. Socks should be new; men, women and children sizes in various colors are needed. The collection continues through February 8, 2013, and can be dropped off at their office on Route 611. The socks will be distributed by the Salvation Army (Monroe County).
The Chinchilla Hose Company's annual lenten pizza sale begining Friday, February 15th and continuing every Friday during lent. Red and White-Broccoli pizza will be available for pickup from the fire house on Shady Lane Road in Chinchilla from 2pm till 7pm. Orders can be placed on the day of the sale by calling 570-586-5726. All proceeds benefit the operations and needed equipment of the Chinchilla Hose Company of South Abington Township.
A Roast Turkey Dinner will be held on February 9th from 4-6pm at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 10275 State Route 44, Watsontown, Between McEwensville and Turbotville on Route 44. Dinner will feature Roast Turkey with all the sides, sherbet and a beverage. Tickers are $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 4-8 years old.
St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 320 Mifflin Ave., Scranton, Pa. 18505 will be sponsoring an International Dinner on February 14, 2013 at the Church Center. This month they will be featuring Italy . There are two sittings; 5:30 and 6:30 and the price is $19.95 per person. Reservations can be made by calling 343-5151 by Fri. February 8.
New Visions Studio & Gallery, located at 201 Vine St. in downtown Scranton is opening their photography darkroom to the public on Saturday February 9th from 12pm to 6pm. Space is limited and usage will be on a first come first serve basis. During this free darkroom day, analog photographers can come develop film and make prints in the darkroom at no cost to them. Any photographer or darkroom hobbyist may use New Visions darkroom, but it is required that they have training and experience working in a darkroom and have knowledge of the process.
