Movin' and Groovin' at the Aerobathon

This exciting event gives participants a chance to do a variety of aerobic exercises, from strutting their stuff at Zumba and Hip Hop to showing their attitude with a little kickboxing, and finishing with a massage and some shopping.
Adding to the excitement this year is DJ Mick Uranko of Uranko Productions who will be performing a live mix of the hottest dance tracks that will keep everyone out on the dance floor.
Kathleen Tone, Y wellness director, said the fun, exciting challenge will give members and non-members alike the chance to showcase their aerobic skills and try something new, all while giving back to their community.
"This is our second Aerobathon so we're all very excited about once again hosting such a fun, energetic event," Tone said. "All exercises will be instructed by our experienced aerobics instructors who have had a great time putting together the entire night."
Tone said the overwhelming success of last year's event encouraged everyone involved to work harder this year in order to beat last year's totals.
The Aerobathon will start with a 20-minute warm-up, followed by four 20-minute aerobic exercise challenges and a final 20-minute cooldown, for a total of two hours. Although the atmosphere will be fast-paced, all the exercises will be low impact, allowing anyone to participate. "Just like all our group exercise classes, our instructors encourage everyone to exercise at their own pace and comfort level," Tone said.
After sweating for a good cause, participants are invited to visit the Y Gallery of Shoppes that will feature a little something for everyone. And just in time for Valentine's Day, the public is also invited to find that special someone the perfect gift. Vendors who will be featured include Pampered Chef, Thirty-One Gifts, Premier Designs Jewelry, Schuylkill Valley Sports, Tastefully Simple, Scentsy Candles, and McCann School of Business, just to name a few.
"Once again, we've had a wonderful response from all the vendors we spoke to. Those who participated last year were eager to return, and the first-time participants are anxious to take part," Tone said. "Everyone seems excited to promote health and wellness, support Y programs, and have some fun, too."
Aerobathon participants will raise money by asking friends for pledges for the entire two hours. The top three fundraisers will receive prizes starting with a one-year adult membership at the Y for the top fundraiser, a six-month adult membership for the second highest, and a three-month membership for third highest. Plus, everyone will be eligible for a slew of unique door prizes.
In addition, those pledging will also earn chances on a $25 gas card. Each $5 pledge earns one chance. "Everybody wins when you support the Y!" Tone said.
All proceeds go directly to Schuylkill Y programs and services, and financial aid. Babysitting will be available and all participants will receive a t-shirt and energy bag.
