Guilty Plea in Deadly Crash in Taylor

Scranton, Lackawanna County - A woman who police say was drunk, high and speeding when she caused a deadly crash that killed two women last summer pleaded guilty Monday afternoon.

Sherry Hubert pleaded guilty to two counts of third degree murder in Lackawanna County.

Kim Smith and Lydia Riley were killed when Hubert's car crashed into their Ford Focus on Oak Street in Taylor.

Prosecutors say Hubert was more than two times the legal limit and was driving more than 90 miles an hour.

"It was a conscious disregard for human life," Deputy District Attorney Bob Klein said. "There were so many factors that went into it, the speed, what was in her system, the location, the fact that there were people in the car. The list goes on and on."

A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled but an agreed upon sentence means Hubert will likely spend between 15 and 40 years behind bars.
