Scranton, Lackawanna
County -- Kyle Recicar is sometimes harassed for being different. But Sunday he
was honored. "It feels good. I like it and stuff. I like how all these
people can come together," says Recicar. He was one of many people who
participated in the celebration of the mass for people with disabilities.
They participated in
all parts of the service. Sister Marybeth Makuch planned the event she says, "They
are not afraid to stand up and proclaim the word. They pass out the programs,
they take up the gift, they greet the people." She also stressed the
importance that we love all people, just as God does, "Everyone of us is
special. We all have special gifts from god. They are different gifts,"
says Sister Makuch.
Nannette Lake has
watched her son Christopher help out with the special mass for several years, "It's
very touching. A lot of times I feel like crying in parts of the mass,"
says Lake. It was a day to focus on people's abilities rather than their
disabilities.
