Stroud Township, Monroe County - The Monroe County Coroner said an investigation into a Monroe County infant's death was closed, but police are saying not-so-fast.

It appears there may have been a misunderstanding. While the Coroner, Bob Allen, has finished his part of the death investigation, police and the District Attorney's office are continuing their investigation.

Three month old Jasaan Feliciano died in Deborah Terry Tompson's Stroud Township home Daycare in November. Allen ruled that the cause of death was "Sudden Unexplained/Unexpected Death in Infancy." It was formerly known as "Suddenly Infant Death Syndrome." Allen said, "In the long run, no one has ever come up with a good answer of why this happens."

A Forensic Pathologist found there were no signs of abuse or poisonous substances in the baby's body. Since no one is sure exactly what causes sudden death in infancy, Allen ruled the manner of death as "undetermined." With that, his work on the case was done. "I never said that the DA was done or the police were done," emphasized Allen.

The District Attorney's office said Allen's comment that the case was closed were "premature and ill advised." Stroud Area Regional Police are still working on the case. Captain Brian Kimmins said, "We are still waiting on one other report to be submitted to the department." That is a pathology report. Once that is in, the investigating officer will meet with medical experts and the DA. The officer might also re interview witnesses. Kimmins added, "Essentially what we are going to be looking for is if there was any type of negligence that took place."

Anyone with information on this case should contact SARPD at 570-421-6800.
