SHAVERTOWN, LUZERNE COUNTY- It smells like homemade kettle corn, tastes like roasted s'mores and feels like a warm fire. It looks like winter wonderland and sounds like children having fun. The Lands at Hillside Farms are giving families a really good reason to enjoy the outdoors in the dead of winter. Casey Kotch and her husband rounded up their three children, and brought them here for the first annual Winterfest. "We love the farm. We started coming here after we moved down this way in the summer. My husband heard about the Winterfest, and we thought it would be a great way to get out of the house. " says, Kotch. Her children were clueless as to where they were headed on this winter weekend, but once they arrived they were all smiles! "They're excited, can't wait to see the animals." Lucas is the baby of the family, but he's not shy. This little guy is excited to see, just about everything."I like cows, I like chickens, I like to feed them. I like horses, I like pony rides, I like tractor rides." says, Lucas. Thousands come to the farm for its fall festival, but Hillside Farms is also beautiful during the winter season. "Well it's a 400 acre backdrop, so people can come and walk all over these hills and throughout the fields. They can take a walk in our barns. " says, Doug Ayres. There is an endless amount of things to see and do here. From roasting s'mores over an open fire to taking a pony ride, Winterfest makes these chilly winter days so much fun."We try to get people out all times of the year. It's that time of the year when people are cooped up. It's a nice place to come and enjoy times with their families." adds Ayres.
