Inmate Indicted for Assault on Corrections Officer

South Canaan Township, Wayne County - An inmate from the federal prison in Wayne County has been charged with assaulting a corrections officer.

Jose Montalban has been indicted on two charges by a grand jury.

Officials say Montalban assaulted the officer with a sharpened weapon, known as a shank.

The officer suffered facial wounds which required nine sutures.

If convicted, Montalban could face up to 20 years in prison.
