Kicking off this weekend: The Pennsylvania Farm show in Harrisburg. The 2013 Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the nation, featuring nearly 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits and 300 commercial exhibitors. The show runs Jan. 5-12 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. Admission is free, and parking is $10. For more information, visit www.farmshow.state.pa.us.
January 5th and 6th
The Hudson Model Railroad Club will be holding its 30th Anniversary Open House on Saturday, January 5th and January 6th, 2013 from Noon to 5pm. Located at 97 Martin Street, Hudson, PA 18705. Admission to the open house is FREE and parking is FREE as well. Bring the whole family for a fun afternoon and enjoy the sights and sounds of railroading in Northeast PA!
January 5th
The 15th annual Merit Badge College is going on today, Saturday -January 5, at King's College. Hundreds of Boy Scouts are on the Campus the scouts are from all across the region and working toward merit badges. They are merit badges will be taking classes including lifesaving, architecture, journalism, dentistry, chemistry, electronics, and veterinary medicine that will bring them closer to Eagle Scout status
January 6th
A fundraiser will be held this Sunday, January 6th
in memory of the 5th anniversary of Captain James Robeson's Last Call. In his
memory, money will be raised to purchase a much needed ambulance for Haiti
through the St. Luke's Foundation For Haiti and Fr. Rick Frechette. The event
is sponsored in part by the Scranton Fire Fighters. The event will be held at Saint Mary's Center
located on Mifflin Avenue in Scranton.
Tickets cost 20 dollars and include food and drinks. The event will run from 2 pm to 7 pm. There will be music and a basket raffle. Tickets are available at the door.

Wilkes
University's Maslow Foundation Faculty Reading Series will be held nightly from
Sunday, January. 6 to Thursday, January 10. The series, which highlights the
January residency for the University's Graduate Creative Writing Program,
features faculty, advisory board members and alumni of the program. Readings
are held at the Wilkes-King's Barnes and Noble in Public Square, 7 S. Main St.,
Wilkes-Barre, and on the Wilkes campus in the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center.
The readings are from 7 to 9 p.m. each night and are free and open to the public. A book fair is held each evening, sponsored by Barnes and Noble, featuring books for purchase by the authors.
Williamsport Outlaws: There has been a change in the
game times for the next three (3) Saturday home games of the Williamsport
Outlaws Hockey team. (Jan. 5, Jan. 12, and Jan. 19). The Outlaws will now face
off on the next three Saturdays at 1:05pm. Come enjoy your Saturday afternoons
at the Pond at Bowman Field with some good old-fashioned hockey!
Coming up:
St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church International Dinner Club, Scranton, Pa, will sponsor a Jewish Dinner on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at St. Mary's Center 320 Mifflin Ave. Scranton, Pa. There will be two sittings. Chicken Matzo Ball Soup will be the first course, followed by an entre of Beef Brisket, Potato Kugel, and Buttered Broccoli Florets. The dessert will be Apple Cake. Four American Red Cross blood drives are being held on Wednesday, January 9th 2013 in honor of Audrianna Bartol.

Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce announces two advertising executives from
Condron and Company will present information on media effective choices for
business at the January membership meeting. Philip P. Condron, President and
John Cosgrove, Vice President of Condron & Company will present "Effective
Media for your Business Success" to increase brand exposure and profits for
area businesses. The event will be held Wednesday,
January 9, 2013, at Purkey's Pink Apple (Route 6 W, Tunkhannock) from 11:45am

What better way to start the new year than by giving back
to the community. In conjunction with
The Salvation Army (Monroe County), Frailey Insurance and Financial Services
are collecting socks for the homeless.
Socks should be new; men, women and children sizes in various colors are
needed. The collection starts January 1
through February 8, 2013, and can be dropped off at their office on Route
611. The socks will be distributed by
the Salvation Army (Monroe County).
NAMI Scranton is looking forward to another year of providing support, education & advocacy to the NEPA community! The NAMI Scranton support group meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 7-9 pm in the Maternal & Family Health Geisinger-CMC annex building on Colfax Avenue. This month's meetings are the 14th & the 28th.
The Susquehanna River Arts group will
have a show at Artspace Gallery in Bloomsburg, opening on January 17,
2013 and running through Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.
Join participating artists for a reception with light refreshments on January
19, 2013 from 6 pm 'til 8 pm.
Regular gallery hours: Thurs., Fri., and Sat.: noon until 8 pm; Sun.: noon
until 5 pm.
The Susquehanna River Arts group is made up of artists living in Columbia and
Mountour Counties; several different media will be represented: fiber, clay,
painting, photography, mixed media wall pieces and sculptures, drawing and
