Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18
Brian McDonald will be sitting for 48 hours at the corner of Lackawanna and Delaware Streets in front of the Academy of Martial Arts to raise money for the American Cancer Society and Paul's Journey. Paul's Journey is a movement to honor the fight against cancer by Paul Vessels. Paul is currently battling cancer and his step son Brian is doing this fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society and to help Paul's family with medical expenses. Brian began this fundraiser on Friday night- it will continue through 6 pm Sunday November 18. Donations can be made on site.

The Toy Train Expo will be held November 17th and 18th at the Park Home, 800 West Fourth Street in Williamsport. The hours will be Saturday 17th from 10 am - 4pm , and Sunday 18th 12 noon to 4pm.This is the 22nd year of the event.

Ss. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olyphant is hosting "The 3rd Annual Hometown Bake Sale. Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday November 18, 2012 from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at 135 River Street, Olyphant, Pa (the School Gym).
Additional fund raiser items: The Cookbooks "Favorite Recipes from our Best Cooks" Volume I and Volume II . The Choir will have available their Christmas CD for $15.00 and the Divine Liturgy DVD for $20.00.
November 17th
The City of Wilkes-Barre will kick-off the holiday season with a day full of events in downtown Wilkes-Barre, concluding with the arrival of Santa during the annual Christmas Parade and the lighting of the Christmas tree on Public Square.The events begin at noon and the parade will begin at 2 pm.
Unity of NEPA: A Spiritual Center and the Success for Teen Foundation are co-hosting a Teen Empowerment Movie and Discussion Event on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 7 p.m. Our goal is to show teens, their parents, and all who counsel teens different ways they can engage in communicating about this serious topic. The inspirational film, "To Save A Life," which deals with many of the issues that teens deal with today - teen suicide, bullying, and teen pregnancy will be presented. Unity is located at 140 South Grant Street in Wilkes Barre, PA. Free parking is available on South Grant Street and behind the church in the parking lots off of Bethel Lane. All are welcome, as Unity is non-denominational. Event is by a love offering; however, scholarships are available to attend this event for those unable to pay.
Waste Management and the Lackawanna Valley Conservancy will team up to help the community recycle used electronics on Nov. 17 in Scranton. Households and businesses with fewer than 50 employees will be able to recycle electronics at Jessee's Place, 426 Bartel St., near the Scranton Cooperative Farmers Market, from 9 a.m. to noon or until a truck trailer is filled with used televisions, computer equipment and almost any other device that plugs in or uses batteries
The Mohegan Sun Arena/SMG Management staff and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will host a Food Drive on November 17th to benefit the Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey. All items will be donated to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
The Community FoodBank of New Jersey is seeking donations of the following items only: Meals in a can, Canned tuna, Peanut butter, Protein bars, Canned Fruits, Canned Vegetables, Canned Soup, Shelf-stable Milk, Cereal, Diapers and Baby Food (No Glass Jars).

The Eastern Pike Regional Police Department is hosting its third annual pet food drive to support the Pike County Humane Society.
Beginning November 15, 2012 through the end of December citizens may drop off non-perishable pet food items to the police department, located at 10 Avenue I in Matamoras.
The Holiday Pet Food Drive is the way to help the non-profit Pike County Humane Society keep up with increasing costs.
November 18th
The Bucknell University Concert Chorale will present its annual fall concert Sunday, Nov. 18, at 2:30 p.m. in the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, is conducted by William Payn, professor of music at Bucknell, with David Cover as accompanist.
"Celebrations" includes a selection of works in honor of life and good health, commitment, human discovery and fulfillment, the Nativity and American tradition.
Coming Up:
Riverside High School's Seventh Annual Faculty vs. Seniors Flag Football game is scheduled for Tuesday, November 20, 2012. The game will be held at Riverside Veteran's Memorial Stadium at 7:00 PM. Proceeds from the game benefit Saint Patrick's Food Pantry in West Scranton and Saint Joseph's Food Pantry in Minooka.
Live at Downtown Arts.The evening featuring two local musicians will be held on November 21 from 7 to 10 pm at Downtown Arts (Arts Universe) at 47 N. Franklin Street in Wilkes-Barre PA.
This will be the third annual "Live at Downtown Arts".The concert will feature Mike Miz Mizwinski, a Rock-Americana artist from Northeast Pennsylvania in a solo acoustic performance.Miz will be joined by Ryan Brown.Brown is a local singer/songwriter currently residing in Nashville Tennessee.
The event will be a FREE donation based benefit and all profits will go directly to those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy
The annual Holiday Craft Show to benefit the American Red Cross will be held on November 24 and 25 at the Kingston Armory.There will be over 130 vendors.The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 24 and from 10 to 4 pm on Sunday, November 25.There is a $4 entry fee.

Sunday, November 25th, Temple B'nai B'rith in Kingston is hosting a Rummage Sale with all proceeds going to help the victims of Superstorm Sandy.

The annual parade of trees decorating party will be held at Grotto Pizza at Harveys Lake on Tuesday, November 20. This year 25 trees will be featured. The trees are sponsored by area business and money raised benefits area charities. All you need to do is stop by vote with a monetary donation for your favorite tree.

Riverside Fourth Grade Chorus presents, The Nutcracker Suite, at 6:30pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Riverside High School Auditorium. In this presentation, multiple narrators tell the story of little Clara's dream-like Christmas adventure to the Nutcracker's magical land. Using Tchaikovsky's original music with clever, plot progressing lyrics, this is a true holiday tradition brought to life that will delight audiences of all ages.
A Live Nativity will be enacted at the Clarks Green Assembly of God on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - December 14, 15 and 16 from 7pm to 9pm. The inn and stable will come alive with actors and animals portraying Jesus' birth. Christmas carols, hot beverages, cookies and a warm fire will be in the fellowship hall. This is a free event gift to the community from the Clarks Green Assembly of God at 204 S. Abington Road, Clarks Green, PA.
