Traveling Before the Storm

Avoca, Luzerne County-  Most people are getting ready to be stuck inside for the next few days, but others have travel arrangements drawing them out.  The majority of flights in our area are still on time, but that's expected to change over the next few days.  Anyone flying in the next few days need to be continually checking the flight schedule. In the mean time, people who flew out Saturday were relieved to outrun the nightmare of Franken-storm at least for now.

"So everything is running on time," says Gerard Sullivan from Tampa, Florida.  They may be on time now, but not for long.  Sullivan hopped on a plane just in time.  Hurricane Sandy is expected to hit the Northeast within days and delays are sure to follow.  Joseph Moran, Fleetville, says "I'm not worried about the hurricane, I'm leaving!"  People at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport Saturday flew out on time and they were all eager to get to their destination before the storm hit, but most said it wasn't their own safety they were neccessarily concerned about. "I'm just worried about my family here is all," adds Moran.

The folks departing are glad they are leaving for dryer weather, but they are leaving behind some advice for people who have to make it through the storm.  Sullivan says "I'm used to it coming from Florida.  Make sure you have plenty of batteries and water in your camp supplies in case your power goes out you'll have everything you need, because back in Florida, as you know,  we get the horricanes so as long as you have a few days of water and so forth and batteries on hand for flashlights you should be ok."

Moran takes the calm collected approach,"just relax. Find a hotel if things get rough," while others err on the side of caution.  "It's a matter of opinion. To them it's obviously neccessary, but to each his own," says Roy Gilgallon of Scranton.  Either way, make sure if you do head out to hit the skies give yourself enough time.

Dominick & Mary Policare have one thought for everyone "oh just be careful, that's all.  I just hope everybody gets there safe."  If you need to check a flight over the next few days a link to the airport web-site is below.
