Texas Township, Wayne County - State police in Wayne County say a man in a black ski mask tried to rob a restaurant worker as she walked to her car late Sunday night.

The incident is prompting concern from people who work and shop in the area.

The attempted robbery happened outside the Pizza Hut on Route Six in Texas Township just after 10:30 PM Sunday night.

The manager of Pizza Hut said the 31-year-old victim was an employee who was leaving work. She was not seriously hurt and was back at work on Monday afternoon.

"I'm shocked and scared actually," Patricia Lafayette of Narrowsburg said.

The Pizza Hut is at the end of a very busy plaza that is full of shops and restaurants and even a movie theater.

"You don't hear much of that around here," Debbi Mesler of Honesdale said.

Georgette Ursich and her husband both work right in the area. They had not heard about the crime until Eyewitness News talked with them Monday afternoon.

"It's very scary because we both work down here," Ursich said. "Our kids, we're always out and about down here."

State police say the robber attempted to get money from the woman as she got into her car.

Troopers say the woman fought back against the man and he left empty-handed.

"I'm not condoning the behavior whatsoever but I think some people get desperate at this point and there have been more break-ins and robberies in the local area than you'd expect," Greg Haas said.

With the man involved in teh attempted robbery still on the run, people say they'll be a little more cautious when walking in the area.

"Maybe not try to be out as late as we usually are and maybe not go out as late at night," Ursich said.

State police say the man involved in the attempted robbery was about five-foot-four, 160 pounds and stocky.

He was last seen on Route Six headed eastbound.

Troopers are asking anyone who may have seen the suspect or the attempted robbery to call State Police in Honesdale at (570) 253-7126.
