February 16th and 17th
* The Clarks Summit Ice Festival continues this weekend. This is the 9th annual festival and the theme is "Sub-Zero Superheroes."
This Ice Festival continues both Saturday and Sunday with live music, ice carvings and horse-and-carriage rides.
*The
Electric City Trolley Station & Museum will be running full steam ahead
over President's Day weekend when the 16th annual Rail Enthusiasts Winter
Meeting arrives in town.
The museum will host The Pennsylvania Garden Railway Society, Warrior Run Locomotive Works, Aikenback Live Streamers and The Wyoming Valley Live Steamers.
Visitors will be able to inspect the cars and see such instrumentation as running live steam, electric G scale and other assorted large gauges.
Trolley excursions will also be running, weather permitting, at 10:30 AM, Noon, 1:30 PM, and 3 PM.

*The King's College Theatre Department will host the regional premiere of Patrick Barlow's comedy "The 39 Steps" at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 16, 21-23 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in the George P. Maffei II Theatre.
*Wilkes University Theatre will present the musical archy & mehitabel. The performances will take place Feb. 16, 22, 23 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 17, 24 at 2 p.m. at the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center.
The Music Box Player presents "Annie" at the Music Box Dinner Playhouse, 196 Hughes St., Swoyersville performances 15-17 and 22-24. Show times Friday and Saturday at 8 pm, Sunday at 3 pm. For reservations, call 283-2195

February 16th
* The Downtown Stroudsburg Ice Festival is set for Saturday. The event runs from noon until 3 p.m. Come out and enjoy!
*The Northeastern Pennsylvania Reading Association will host "Reading Time at Mall" today at the Steamtown Mall in Scranton. Drew Speier, Tim Kelchner, and Brittany Sweeney will be there. Stop by and say hi. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the mall's second level. Each child will receive a book. Click Here to see the NEPA Reading Association's visit to PA Live.
*High Point Baptist Church, located at 1919 Mountain Road in Larksville, will be holding a Free Clothing Giveaway, on Saturday, February 16, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church. Local consignment shops as well as church members donate the clothing twice each year to be redistributed within our community. Clothing for infants, children and some adults will be made available. * Lawrence Lang of Shickshinny will display a variety of landscape and macro photographs in an exhibition titled, "A Closer Look," in King's College Widmann Gallery from Monday, Feb. 25, through Friday, April 5
* The Chinchilla Hose Company's annual Lenten pizza sale continues every Friday during lent. Red and White-Broccoli pizza will be available for pickup from the fire house on Shady Lane Road in Chinchilla from 2pm till 7pm. Orders can be placed on the day of the sale by calling 570-586-5726. All proceeds benefit the operations and needed equipment of the Chinchilla Hose Company of South Abington Township.
*Marywood University will present its 11th Annual "Celebrate Your Body Wellness Fair" on Thursday, February 21. The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Fireplace Lounge of Nazareth Student Center on Marywood's campus. This event is free and open to the community.
The
"Celebrate Your Body Wellness Fair" is an interactive program used to promote
positive body image, fitness and personal health. There will be informational
booths, featuring topics such as personal health care, nutrition, health
screenings, osteoporosis, skin cancer prevention, physical fitness, and
positive body image. Other highlights of the fair will be massages, facials,
tips on skin care for winter months, dorm room exercise ideas, demonstrations
on yoga, Zumba, and self-defense strategies.
*A banner has been hung at Main and Centre streets in downtown Shenandoah heralding the Feb. 24 to March 9 visit to the community of the official Vatican replica of the Shroud of Turin.
The actual Shroud, in safekeeping in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, is thought by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ.
According to Monsignor Myron Grabowsky, St. Michael pastor, there
will be a parade that will include Shenandoah Mayor Andrew Szczyglak, the
Knights of Columbus and the Shenandoah Fire and Police departments to escort
the Shroud, upon its arrival, to the church, Chestnut and Oak streets, where it
will be available for viewing until March 9. 
*Everyone
knows that owls are nocturnal, flying about and doing what owls do under the
cover of darkness. But where are they during the day? Learn where and how to
look for these secretive birds on their daytime roosts during this hike on
February 23, 2013, Saturdayat Kettle Creek from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with
Environmental Educator Brian Hardiman. If we're lucky, we may even find an owl
or two! Cost: $5/non-member, $3/EE Center member. Dress for the weather.

Coming up in March
* Budget-minded high school girls looking for
great prom dresses at modest prices will get some help from Wilkes University
students in March. Students involved in the University's Relay for Life event
benefiting the American Cancer Society are collecting gently used prom dresses
from now until March 16.
The dresses will be sold on March 16 at an event on the first floor of the Henry Student Center, 84 W. South St., Wilkes-Barre, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Relay for Life
S.S. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Olyphant, Pa
will be sponsoring our 2nd Annual "Meatless Meal for Lent" a Baked
Haddock Dinner on Friday March 22, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the
Regal Room, 216 Lackawanna Ave., Olyphant, Pa SIT DOWN OR TAKE OUT. Dinner
includes: baked haddock, potato, vegetable, cole-slaw, roll and dessert.

* A Household Auction will be held Sunday March 3rd beginning at 1pm at The South Creek Lions Club on Route 14 in Gillett. All proceeds will benefit the Lions Club. Anyone wishing to donate good clean household items for the auction may drop them off at the Club February 25th-March1st between 3 and 6pm. Refreshments will be available. Auctioneer Randy Jeliff is donating his services for this benefit. A Chicken Bar B Q is also scheduled to coincide with this event.
