New Milford, Susquehanna County - A small, close knit community in Susquehanna county is mourning the loss of one of their own. Mahlon Mosher, a sophomore at Blue Ridge High School, was hit by a train and killed this morning as he was walking to school.
Mahlon Mosher was a student athlete, a member of the varsity wrestling team at Blue Ridge High School in New Milford. Before Tuesday nights basketball game, on the very floor where Mosher practiced on the matts , a moment of silence was held in honor of a boy who's life was tragically cut short.
Tuesday morning mosher was walking to school on the train tracks in New Milford, listening to music through his headphones, when the conductor of an oncoming train signaled to Mosher with an air horn. But there was not enough time to stop and Mosher did not respond. He was struck by the engines front plow and killed.
Mosher was a 16 year old sophomore. He was new to the Blue Ridge School District. His family had moved to Susquehanna County from Texas at the beginning of the year because his dad works in the natural gas industry.
But in his short time here in Pennsylvania, Mosher made his mark and that's evident on a memorial facebook page created by friends and classmates. One of his wrestling coaches writes, he was one of the nicest and most polite boys I had the honor of knowing. A classmate calling him a perfect gentleman and peers wrote countless messages showing all kinds of love and support for his grieving family.
As soon as school officials learned of the tragedy they immediately made counselors available to the students and they will be available for as long as they are needed.
