Web Extra: Medicare Open Enrollment Links and Information

Updated: October 12, 2012

Secretary of Aging Brian Duke is reminding older Pennsylvanians that the Medicare annual enrollment period will begin on Monday, Oct. 15 and end Friday, Dec. 7.
"This is the time for Medicare enrollees to evaluate their health coverage," Duke said. "They have a lot of choices and we encourage them to consult our APPRISE program to learn what is new and help them make decisions that best fits their individual needs."
APPRISE is a free health insurance counseling program designed to help older Pennsylvanians with Medicare. Counselors are trained volunteers who can answer questions about Medicare. They provide objective, easy-to-understand information about Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Medicaid, and long-term care insurance.
APPRISE volunteers work through the local Area Agencies on Aging to address questions and concerns of older adults. Most Area Agencies on Aging offer enrollment events where older adults can receive guidance on Medicare health and prescription plans.
