Morris, Lycoming County: For about 35 years Ski Sawmill in northern Lycoming County has been a great place to learn to ski.

Ski Sawmill prides itself as a family resort where intermediate skiers and boarders can improve their skills, or beginner skiers can comfortably experience skiing for the first time. As a novice skier, if you’ve ever had the nightmare of riding the lift all the way to the top of the mountain and not being able to get down, Ski Sawmill has a perfect alternative. The ground based T-bar lift offers new skiers a safe option.

Josh Lieb is the Group Sales Director at Ski Sawmill. He explained “You can get off anywhere on the mountain.  This is nice for beginners because you don’t have to ride the chair the whole way to the top and chance it coming down. It’s a lot safer for them.”

This family resort also offers a 10 room lodge right by the slopes.  Complete with a large TV room and kitchen, it can be rented out completely for larger groups.

Ski Sawmill has planned plenty of fun in the snow the next few weekends.  March 17th is the snowmobile drag race hill climb. And this weekend is their Winter Carnival.

“That’s going to have a big air jump, a bunch of different races.  Plus a pond skimming. That’s when we clear out a big spot; they get a running start and skim across the pond that we make” explained Lieb.

Even though meteorological winter has ended, don’t even think about putting away those skies.  Spring time skiing offers advantages that you can’t find during the dead of winter. The extreme cold has eased, the snow is slightly slower and softer, plus the bases are at their deepest with practically every slope still open.

And that’s what you’ll find this weekend.  Big Boulder boasts up to a 114 inch deep base with all trails open. Elk will ski all 27 trails with a 3 to 6 foot base. Two to four feet of snow covers Ski Sawmill’s 13 trails.

While the heavy rain today will have some affect on the snow, colder temperatures return for the second half of the weekend ensuring we’ll still have snow covering the slopes through mid March.
