Mount Pocono, Monroe County -- A rude awakening is the best way to describe the Friday that dawned in Mount Pocono.  The morning began with swirling snow thanks to howling winds. It wasn't a lot of snow, just a couple of inches, but enough to make roads like Route 940 near Mount Pocono Plaza slick.

The snow was definitely enough to bring out the three-man crew from Grassie & Sons Incorporated of Lake Ariel -- or GSI for short. It's an excavating company contracted for snow plowing at Mount Pocono Plaza. Spring is less than two weeks away and it can't come soon enough for these workers including Mike Szewczyk. "I'm tired to be here, you know. Like every time like this winter is crazy because every time it's nothing big. You know, like one time we only got four inches and all the other times we got 1, 2, 3 (inches). That's it," said Mr. Szewczyk. This latest storm is typical of the ones that GSI has had to deal with but over a period of time they've amounted to plenty and the snow piles just refuse to melt.

The snow caused delays for places like Pocono Mountain School District.  Meanwhile, public busing ran on schedule which was a good thing for East Stroudsburg University sophomore Joseph Pemberton. He said he's had his fill of the mean season. "It's annoying. I just want the snow to go away," he said. "I'm on a cane so it's really hard to walk on the ice."

Even people who seem to enjoy winter concede it's time for a thaw. "I love it here. I'm here for the duration." said Francis Piraino of Pocono Summit. When asked if he's ready for a change of seasons, Mr. Piraino replied, "Yeah, then I can go plant my garden or something."
