Kingston, Luzerne County- Stressed out? If so, you're not alone. Millions of Americans feel stressed everyday. licensed psychologist Dr. Robert Bohlander says, anxiety is a normal thing. "Many people experience anxiety in their daily lives which is quite normal. Anxiety is a normal experience. We shouldn't try and live a life without any anxiety, but for some people it becomes overwhelming and they have to quit there jobs and so on because they can't take care of the anxiety." says, Bohlander. Because anxiety is a normal human emotion, Dr. Bohlander says, at certain times, you need to experience it. " If you're walking down a dark street by yourself, you should be experiencing some anxiety because there's potential danger." says, Bohlander. One of the easiest things you can do when feeling anxious, is focus on your breathing Breathing from the diaphragm has a relaxing affect on the body. "When people get stressed or tense, they tend to breath from the top of their chest as opposed to their diaphragm and they end up taking very shallow, quick breathes, and it makes things even more tense." he says. There are so many different ways to help your anxiety. From exercising to talking with a counselor. While most people will feel stressed out at times, dr. Bohlander says for some, it's a much bigger problem. "Well, about twenty percent of the population has a significant problem with anxiety, so in this country that may be fifty million people." says, Bohlander.
