Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County-    It was four years ago the Kids For Cash scandal became public. Former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan entered plea agreements with Federal prosecutors. They were later convicted or plead guilty to charges connected to the scandal. Sandy Fonzo whose son was sent away by Ciavarella said, "I am happy the community has made progress but Ciavarella has never said he was sorry for what happened." State Senator Lisa Baker who was a major player in advancing legislative reforms said, "The reforms in place are good but the court of public opinion will take a longtime to recapture." Chief Public Defender Al Flora said, "We have to maintain certain funding levels or all of these efforts could be in vain." More than 30 public officials were nabbed in the ongoing Federal corruption probe.
