Millennium Music Teachers Association presents the second annual Ice Recital, a two-day performance located at center court at The Mall at Steamtown Saturday, January 19th from 11-8 and Sunday, January 20th from 1-5. This year's recital will showcase local music students and groups, featuring piano solos and ensembles, vocal and instrumental performances, and musical theater. The Ice Recital will raise awareness and support for Marley's Mission, a local non-profit organization that provides equine-based therapy free of charge to children, and their families, who have experienced trauma.
January 19th
The Two Mountain District Winter Fun Day is going on today at Kirby Park Today (Saturday, Jan. 19) from Noon until 3:00pm. Winter Fun Day is open to all cub scouts and their families. Boy Scouts and their leaders from troops and Packs from Avoca to Dallas and Pittston to Mountain Top will be running all the events.
How about an
evening featuring a mix of jazz standards and original compositions? The
Cooperage Project is proud to announce that the Kazzrie Jaxen Quartet will be
performing live on the Cooperage stage on Saturday, January 19, 2013. The
Cooperage is located at 1030 Main Street in

The
Susquehanna River Arts group will have a show at Artspace Gallery in
Bloomsburg through Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.
Join participating artists for a reception with light refreshments on January
19, 2013 from 6 pm 'til 8 pm. Regular gallery hours: Thurs., Fri., and Sat.: noon until 8 pm; Sun.: noon
until 5 pm.
The Susquehanna River Arts group is made up of artists living in Columbia and
Mountour Counties; several different media will be represented: fiber, clay,
painting, photography, mixed media wall pieces and sculptures, drawing and
printing.

disaster and its immediate aftermath presented by documentary filmmakers Al and

the Hometown Boyz singing their blues recording "Coal Mine Blues," other
speakers, Audrey Calvey's memorial embroidery on display, victims' family

St. Stephen's Church host Recital of American Songs on Inauguration Day, Sunday, January 20th at 4pm
The concert will feature mezzo-soprano Ellen Rutkowski and pianist Rick Hoffenberg
The program will feature
works by Ricky Ian Gordon, Lori Laitman, Samuel Barber, Gene Scheer, Gwyneth
Walker, Tom Cipullo, Jake Heggie, Richard Hundley, Alec Wilder, William Bolcom,
Kurt Weill, David Burge, John Musto, and Northeast Pennsylvania native and
resident, Richard Wargo.
There is no charge for admission, although a

First Presbyterian Church 97 S. Franklin St. Wilkes-Barre From 1 to 3 pm The event, co-sponsored by the NEPA Organizing Center in conjunction with Put People First PA, the Poverty Initiative from Union Theological Seminary, and the Peace and Justice Center of W-B, explore how we can not only celebrate King's life but continue his legacy. The event will include a presentation on the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, and discussion of the work of Put People First PA, and testimony and conversations about how we can work together to solve the growing needs of our communities.

The
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will be holding an Open House on Saturday,
Jan. 26. Fans are invited to come out and check the progress of PNC Field. The
event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Saturday January 26th the Pine Street MOPS
Group will be sponsoring an Education and Services Expo from 11:00-2:00 at the
Pine Street UM Church in Williamsport, 441 Pine Street. Come and explore the
different education options and intervention services that are available in the
area for your child. Public schools, private schools, daycares, preschools and
service organizations will be present. If your school or organization would

What better way to start the new year than by giving back to the community. In conjunction with The Salvation Army (Monroe County), Frailey Insurance and Financial Services are collecting socks for the homeless. Socks should be new; men, women and children sizes in various colors are needed. The collection starts January 1 through February 8, 2013, and can be dropped off at their office on Route 611. The socks will be distributed by the Salvation Army (Monroe County).
The Campus Theatre in Lewisburg (Bucknell University) will host the documentary
film, "Herman's House," Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m.
Film director Angad Bhalla will introduce the film, which addresses the injustice of solitary confinement and the transformative power of art by highlighting an unlikely friendship and collaboration between a New York artist and one of America's most famous inmates confined in a solitary prison cell for 40 years
Penn
State Hazleton's Cultural Events Series continues as Taikoza, a group
performing on a variety of Japanese instruments, takes the stage in the
Slusser/Bayzick Building at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23. The event is free
and open to the public
Dinner tickets are now available for Transfiguration of Our Lord Church's Myasopusna festival, held at the church's banquet hall, in Nanticoke on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from noon to 4 pm.
The Myasopusna (Meatfare) festival is the
parish's annual prelenten celebration, preceding the Lenten Great Fast. Dinner
(a platter of kobasi, roast pork, varenyky, borscht, blackbread and butter, and
a homemade dessert) will be served from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. A variety of
Ukrainian crafts, including pysanky, embroidery, woodcrafts, beadwork, and ceramics
will be available for sale or by raffle. Live entertainment will include the Holy Year
Choir, Kazka Ukrainian Folk Ensemble, and the Saint Mary's Ukrainian Dancers.
Dinner tickets are $13, with an advanced ticket price of $10, if purchased by
January 27. The
church hall is located at the corners of Bliss Street and Center Street, in the
Hanover Section of Nanticoke. Tickets can be purchased by calling Helen
(735-4654) or Geri (824-3880).
Roast Turkey Dinner will be held on February 9 from 4-6pm at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 10275 State Route 44, Watsontown, Between McEwensville and Turbotville on Route 44
Dinner will feature Roast Turkey with all the sides, sherbet and a beverage. Tickers are $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 4-8 years old.
"Breathe Deep NEPA" will host a benefit Dinner on January 27th. "Breathe Deep NEPA" is - a grassroots group which is part of the LUNGevity Foundation, the nation's leading non-profit organization in the fight against Lung Cancer.
As part of the local chapter's fundraising efforts they are sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner. "Dine for a Cure". The event will be held at the VFW Post 283, on Sunday, January 27th. The VFW is located at 757 Wyoming Avenue in Kingston from 1:00pm- 5:00pm. Donations of $10.00 include beverage, Spaghetti dinner, salad, and dessert. Scranton is looking forward to another year of providing support, education
& advocacy to the NEPA community! The NAMI
Scranton support group meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th
Monday of each month from 7-9 pm in the Maternal & Family Health
Geisinger-CMC annex building on Colfax Avenue.
The next meeting is January 28th.
St.
Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 320 Mifflin Ave., Scranton, Pa. 18505 will be sponsoring an
International Dinner on February 14, 2013 at the Church Center. This month they
will be featuring Italy . There are two
sittings; 5:30 and 6:30 and the price is $19.95 per person. Reservations can be
made by calling 343-5151 by Fri. February 8.
Notre Dame United School System will host a "Bags and
Bangles" Bingo on March 10 . The event will be held at St. Luke's parish Center on 818
Main Street in Stroudsburg. The event
will run from 2 to 5 pm. Advance Tickets
are $25- $35 at the door. Proceeds
