State College, Centre County --  Governor Tom Corbett filed a Federal lawsuit Wednesday against the NCAA over its sanctions against Penn State University. Corbett unveiled the lawsuit at a late morning news conference at the Nittany Lion Inn in University Park. Cortbett, surrounded by Penn State Alumni, current students, former football players and area businessman, told reporters,"In the wake of this terrible scandal, Penn State was left to heal and clean up this tragedy that was created by a few."

The students, the alumni, the board, the adminstration and faculty came together at that moment and began to rebuild." Corbett added, "At the same time, while the healing was taking place, the NCAA piled on,choosing to levy, in their words, unprecedented sanctions against Penn State and it football program."  In July, as the Jerry Sandusky child sex scandal unfolded, Penn State University agreed to the santions, for the most part, to save its football program.

The sanctions included a $60 million dollar fine, a ban from bowl games for four years, and the stripping of victories for a 14 year period. Corbett said, "I cannot stand by as Governor of the Commonwealth and let this happen without a fight. The NCAA used this scandal for its own purposes." The NCAA released a statement saying it was disppointed in the Governor's action and that it was only adding to the pain of the Sandusky victims.
