Jenkins Township, Luzerne County - Local woman won big on Wheel of Fortune but now there's a lot of controversy surrounding her victory.  Wednesday the episode aired showcasing Amy Vincenti  of Jenkins Township.  She won a car, a trip to Hawaii and thousands of dollars but now her game show opponent is speaking out, saying she solved the puzzle first but because of the way she pronounced it, she was robbed of a potential victory.

Renee Durette, a Naval Intelligence Specialist from Florida who had nearly four thousand bucks on the line, mispronounced "Swan's a Swimming" on Wheel of Fortune, dropping the "G", even though the "G" was already on the board.  That gave Jenkins Township native Amy Vincenti a chance to solve or should we say pronounce the puzzle correctly, which she did.

Sunday, Renee was on the Today Show, 3 months after the game show was taped.  Although understanding, she still admits it's frustrating,  "I'm from Florida, where the "G" is silent.  I understand and they have their rules but it's disappointing!"

We spoke with Amy last week, after the show aired.  Here is what she told us about Renee's mispronunciation while re-watching the show in her Luzerne County home, "They clearly tell you in the beginning, when they are prepping you for everything, make sure you read everything, and pronounce the letters how they are supposed to be pronounced."

A small technicality that cost Renee but afforded Amy to walk away winning.  Renee says she didn't walk away empty handed.  She won $8200.  She says even after this fiasco she's still a big fan of the show.

I don't kow whether it is the writer or the speaker, but I would guess (or hope) the show told the contestants to "enunciate" not "annunciate."
