Nanticoke, Luzerne County-- The Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis says her office received several complaints about cameras that were installed inside the wrestling room of the Nanticoke Area High School. Salavantis said a county detective is working with Nanticoke Police looking into the circumstances of how and why the cameras were placed in the building and why they were removed so quickly. Superintendent of Schools Anthony Perrone said he could not comment on the investigation only to confirm that one was underway. Sources close to the case tell the I-Team that the cameras were installed by the order of an unnamed school director after a complaint was made against the wrestling program. The cameras--two-- were installed about three weeks ago only to be removed two days later by order of an unnamed administrator. Parents say they want answers, John Kotz said, "As long as they are not placed where students are getting changed I have no problem with them. In fact the more the better since I think they deter bullying and other problems." Susan Shaeffer added, "I think it is a violation of privacy. They should not be used anywhere kids are playing sports." Efforts to reach school officials involved in the wrestling program have been thus far unsuccessful.
