Santa took his spot along the festive route to accept wish lists from children who eagerly count down the days until he arrives at their homes. Holiday music added to the lights that put everyone in a happy mood. "It's a small touch to the holiday spirit. It kind of gets everybody going now that we're into December," said Berwick High School Band Director Ron Wasser. He said his musicians are proud to be part of the opening night seasonal spectacle. "I think they all grew up as little children with their parents bringing them down the boulevard so to be able to contribute now at this age and add to the aura of the evening and of the month I think it's kind of neat and important to them."
The Berwick Jaycees are behind this holiday tradition that dates back more than six decades. For them, It's all about the giving. "Every night we're trying to hand out something different. We have sponsors that have given us stuff to hand out." Berwick Jaycees President Wade Joline says it takes about a month to assemble everything necessary for this festival of lights but for him and the many volunteers it's well worth it. "It makes you feel good. It makes you feel like you've done something for somebody else."
Berwick Christmas Boulevard is open nightly from 6:00 until 10:00 through New Year's Day.
