Kidder Township, Carbon County - Ski season is officially here, well at least at one mountain in Carbon County.  For the eighth consecutive season, Big Boulder has been the first ski resort to open in the state.

Thanks to the cold weather these past few days, crews at Big Boulder have been able to make snow and Wednesday they officially opened at three o'clock for the season.  They are kicking off the 2012-2013 ski season with what they call "Boulder Gives Back."  If you bring either a new unwrapped toy valued at 15 dollars or more or ten non perishable food items you will receive a complementary ski pass.  The toys will be donated to Toys for Tots and the food will be given to the local food pantry here in Lake Harmony.

Last year, Big Boulder helped over 600 families and nearly 3 thousand children in Carbon and Schuylkill counties.  Guests can also buy a pass for 20 dollars.

Right now, only one trail is open but each day they are able to make snow more trials will open.

Their sister mountain, Jack Frost, is set to open the second weekend of December.
