All aboard the Holiday Express!!
The Lackawanna County Electric City Trolley has set-up two special excursions for the holiday season aimed at getting every rider in a festive and giving mood.
The first run is set for Thanksgiving weekend - November , 24, & 25 - and focuses on helping the less fortunate members of our community.
Any child that brings an unwrapped toy valued at $5 or more will receive a free ride. The gifts will be donated to the Toys For Tots drive.
Members of the Marine Corps League will be on hand on November 24 & 25 to collect the gifts. The trolley will depart each day at 10:30 AM, Noon, 1:30 PM and 3 PM.
The other excursion features jolly old St. Nick. The "Santa on the Trolley" excursions are slated for December 1 & 2, 8 & 9, 15 & 16, and 22. The Santa train will depart the Trolley Museum at 9:30 AM, 11 AM, 12:30 AM, 2 PM and 3:30 PM.

The annual Holiday Craft Show to benefit the American Red Cross will be held on November 24 and 25 at the Kingston Armory. There will be over 130 vendors. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 24 and from 10 to 4 pm on Sunday, November 25. There is a $4 entry fee.
The Holiday lights at Nay Aug Park in Scranton are now on for the season. You are invited to stop by and enjoy this holiday tradition. Show runs through January 7, 2013. There is no fee, however, donations are accepted.

Tonight at the FM Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre Shawn Klush and the Sweet Inspirations in a benefit concert for the Pittston library. The show begins at 8 pm tickets are available at the door.

The Eastern Pike Regional Police Department is hosting its third annual pet food drive to support the Pike County Humane Society. The Drive runs through the end of December citizens may drop off non-perishable pet food items to the police department, located at 10 Avenue I in Matamoras.
The Holiday Pet Food Drive is the way to help the non-profit Pike County Humane Society keep up with increasing costs.

Temple B'nai B'rith in Kingston is hosting a Rummage Sale on Sunday, November 25 with all proceeds going to help the victims of Superstorm Sandy.
The annual Parade of Trees is underway at Grotto Pizza at Harveys Lake . This year 25 trees will be featured. The trees are sponsored by area business and money raised benefits area charities. All you need to do is stop by vote with a monetary donation for your favorite tree.

The Bucknell University Environmental Center Green Screens film series will present a mini festival of short films Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Campus Theatre in downtown Lewisburg.
Marilyn Mumford, author of Keeping Most of Our Marbles in Play, will sign copies of her book Thursday, Nov. 29, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Barnes & Noble at Bucknell University bookstore, located at 400 Market St. in Lewisburg.
Penn State Hazleton THON will host Vera Bradley bingo from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 in the gymnasium at Penn State Hazleton. Numerous new Vera Bradley purses, duffels and bags which make great Christmas gifts will be awarded as prizes during the event.
The cost to play bingo is $20 per person in advance and $25 at the door. Advanced tickets may be obtained in two ways: by visiting the Office of Student Affairs, 105 Charles T. Butler Teaching and Learning Resource Center, or by contacting the Office of Student Affairs at 450-3077 or amh254@psu.edu to make a reservation. The deadline for advanced ticket sales and reservations is Friday, Nov. 30.

The Woodhouse Day Spa in Kingston is hosting its 9th annual Holiday Open House and Party on Thursday, December 6th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. During the event and throughout the month of December, the spa will be selling Make-A-Wish stars. All proceeds resulting from the sale of the stars will be donated to the local chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event is FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, but reservations are required. A Live Nativity will be enacted at the Clarks Green Assembly of God on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - December 14, 15 and 16 from 7pm to 9pm. The inn and stable will come alive with actors and animals portraying Jesus' birth. Christmas carols, hot beverages, cookies and a warm fire will be in the fellowship hall. This is a free event gift to the community from the Clarks Green Assembly of God at 204 S. Abington Road, Clarks Green, PA.
Riverside Fourth Grade Chorus presents, The Nutcracker Suite, at 6:30pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Riverside High School Auditorium. In this presentation, multiple narrators tell the story of little Clara's dream-like Christmas adventure to the Nutcracker's magical land. Using Tchaikovsky's original music with clever, plot progressing lyrics, this is a true holiday tradition brought to life that will delight audiences of all ages.
The National Park Service and the Millbrook Village Society will present two events to celebrate the holiday season at Millbrook Village in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
The Victorian Christmas Celebration is Saturday, December 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Village buildings, decorated in Victorian style, will be open for tours and demonstrations. Park rangers and volunteers will host a number of children's activities in the Van Campen farmhouse, including period toys, games and Christmas crafts. Light refreshments will be available.
On Sunday, December 2 at 5 p.m., the annual Christmas Carol Service will be held in the Millbrook Church. All are welcome to attend the traditional carol program. Light refreshments will be available following the service. Both events are free.

Plans have been announced for the fun-filled annual Holiday Open House sponsored by Highlights for Children.
The Holiday Open House, which is open to the public and has become a tradition for many area families, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at the Highlights editorial offices at 803 Church Street in Honesdale.

Young Pennsylvania students are invited to learn about aviation and express their creativity through the PennDOT Bureau of Aviation's annual art contest.
This year's contest theme, "50 Years of American Space Flight," encourages students to learn more about aviation, from airplane development to flights into space. Entries will be judged in two divisions: first through third grades, and fourth and fifth grades. Entries must be postmarked by Nov. 29.
Artwork should be submitted on 8.5-by-11-inch or 9-by-12-inch paper, unframed, unmatted and unlaminated. All work must be done by hand (there is an exception for children with physical challenges).
Permitted formats are: acrylic, oil paint, felt-tip pens, indelible ink, soft ballpoint pens, watercolor or crayons. Formats that are not permitted include: non-permanent media such as pencil or charcoal, computer-generated artwork and collage work using photocopies.
The back of each submission should include the student's name, teacher's name, grade level, county and school address and phone number. Entries will not be returned. Winners' schools will be notified by telephone.
