Brodheadsville, Monroe County - Crowds stocked up on staples at Kinsley's ShopRite in Brodheadsville. Shopper Gregory Scott said, "I've seen people with 8 quarts of milk, ridiculous amounts." Scott was there picking up some batteries.
Mike Majeski filled his cart with things to make his kids happy. He smiled, "Chips, water, cookies. All the good things to get us by."
While the men checked out their groceries, staffers at the Monroe County Emergency Management Agency checked out their plans. Emergency Management Director Guy Miller said he called in extra staff for the weekend. He said, "We know that we're gonna have roads clogged with trees and wires down and people trying to do their job to restore that power."
You should prepare for ferocious winds by bringing all lawn items inside. Miller said, "Anything that's lying around on the lawn, because it's going to be flying weapons."
Miller said people should prepare for extended power outages. Make sure you have batteries and water.
Emergency Management officials say there is one thing that might not be on your pre-storm shopping list that you should add. That's a car charger for your cell phone. Miller explained, "A lot people don't use car chargers but they are cheap and when the power goes out and the phone goes dead, go out to the car, start it up, charge it up."
Miller said he will communicate with the public through text messages and a Facebook page.
